Experience
Most recently, I worked in Emerson University's Undergraduate Admissions Office and for the Office of the late Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy. My specific tutoring experience includes my work as a Peer French Tutor for the French Department at my university, my work as a writing mentor in a summer writing camp for inner-city high school students and my volunteer work as a Latin tutor for a year while in high school. I have experience working, living and studying in France as well and so can offer French language skills.
Biography
I am currently studying for my Masters of Science in Comparative Politics at the LSE. I am from Boston in the U.S. and did my high school degree at the Boston Latin School, the first public school in America. Following that, I completed my undergraduate degree at Wellesley College with an Honors degree in French and Political Science. While at Wellesley, I pursued theatre, politics and my love of writing. I spent my third year studying abroad in Paris at La Fondation Nationale de Sciences Politiques. Now that my standardized testing days are over (and I have taken an innumerable amount), I am excited to be able to pass on my experience. I have also just recently gone through the U.S. college application process for my graduate degree and would be happy to offer insight into that process and the best application strategies.
Personal Approach
I have seen teachers give up on a student who does not grasp the material instantly. Worse than that, I have seen students give up on themselves. The most difficult subject quickly becomes the most hated. I believe that a tutor’s role is to reinforce a student’s sense of self-worth in the face of a challenging subject and to reassure him or her that understanding it is not impossible. It is a great advantage to have a tutor, who can explain one-on-one the material in a way that is catered for that student alone. The student is given a new opportunity to succeed. I hope to provide that opportunity for your child.
