Experience
I have tutored the SAT examination for about five years, both in the States and in Thailand with students from international schools. I also have significant experience assisting with college applications, personal statements, interview preparation and general college advising. I am well-versed in the art of Ivy League applications, and am familiar with most of the admissions processes throughout the top tier of universities in the States.
Biography
I attended Byram Hills High School just outside of New York City and graduated at the top of my class. I studied Psychology at Brown University in Rhode Island. After graduating from Brown, I spent a year teaching English at Chiang Mai University in Northern Thailand on a fellowship from Princeton University. In my free time, I enjoy sports, books, film and playing music.
Personal Approach
I try to tailor my approach to precisely fit the student's individual learning style. It's important to get a feel early on for what the student is comfortable with and the types of things that may cause them to struggle. I think scheduling and setting goals is quite important as it provides a foundation and can be a motivator towards continued progress, but it's also essential to be flexible and to constantly assess the effectiveness of the instruction as you go along, adapting the syllabus or method if need be. I stress to my students that the SAT is about developing and honing skills, not necessarily inundating yourself with endless amounts of new information. In other words, the best way to prepare is to PRACTICE!
Testimonials
Nick tutored me over a period of months for my SATs and early application to Georgetown. He was extremely helpful as a tutor, and provided me with invaluable assistance in improving my SAT scores. His assistance in negotiating the potential minefield that is the American application system took me through every aspect, from filling in the forms to writing the essays. In the essays especially the time i spent with Nick definitely made a huge difference to my application. Nick's tutoring and advice helped me gain acceptance to Georgetown, and I would highly recommend him as a tutor.
