Experience
I am a trained SAT tutor and a certified English teacher (CertTESOL).
I recently created and delivered a bespoke 30-hour week-long SAT training program for a student entirely new to the American system.
I held numerous leadership positions in high school, including Vice President of the student council, track & field Captain, school Prefect, and Student Representative for a charity organization that dealt directly with HIV-infected teenagers in Romania--so I am no stranger to working with students in academic and non-academic settings. In addition, I have grown up working with under-10s in the classroom with my mother, who has worked as a primary school teacher for over 13 years.
Additionally, I applied to schools in both the United States and the United Kingdom, so I am familiar and comfortable with advising on both systems and the application experience that a hopeful student can expect of them.
Biography
Born in Bakersfield, California, I attended American public schools until after my freshman year when my parents moved abroad (to China) and I moved to a boarding school in Switzerland (TASIS The American School in Switzerland, Lugano). I have recently completed a BA at Kings College, University of London, studying Philosophy.
My main interests outside Philosophy lie in art and music. I have taken numerous evening classes at Central St. Martins to prepare for a degree in Fine Arts (with a concentration on Painting) when I finish at Kings. This previous summer I worked as a part-time intern with The Note Well, a small charity devoted to reminding people of the way music can stimulate and enrich our personal lives and relationships. The bottom line is I love meeting people! I have found that a successful academic spirit is nourished by a social and generally active lifestyle.
Personal Approach
I am approachable and friendly, but I don't think that is incompatible with an understanding of the discipline required to prepare for standardized tests and university applications.
I love sharing ideas as much as I love challenging them, and I think the two come hand in hand. I want to understand what genuinely interests my students and show them how those interests can activate a potential for accomplishments of all kinds.
